I love the holidays. Who doesn't, right? The spirit, food, family time – what's not to love?
My birthday also happens to be during the holidays. Christmas Day, to be exact. And, honestly, I love it so much.
People think I'm crazy for liking it – they even go so far as to tell me that they would hate having their birthday on Christmas. I'm often asked about presents and whether I get gifts for my birthday and Christmas.
I've even been called selfish for liking the holidays solely for my birthday, which is simply not the case.
The holiday season brings my entire family together. Both sides of my family always get together at our house. Everyone that I love is in one space, playing games, watching movies and sharing laughs. Everything about the season makes me feel whole inside.
So why does everyone have to ruin that for me?
I'm so grateful to have been born on a day that brings me and so many others around the world so much joy. It's the time of year when my family gathers and simply enjoys their time together.
My birthday also happens to fall during the same time of year, but who cares? I'm allowed to be excited about Christmas and New Year's without being considered selfish or conceited.
When I'm asked about gifts it sort of takes me by surprise – do people really care that much about receiving presents that they'd hate the day they were born just because they might not get a certain item from their wishlist?
Honestly, if my family decided to not get me any gifts, I wouldn't mind.
I'm so lucky to be surrounded by incredible people who truly care about me, and that's all that matters during the winter season. The love that my family and I are surrounded by each year is so overwhelming. Having 30+ people in our home, the fire burning, a decorated tree and delicious food is all we need.
It's all I need. It's everything I look forward to.
Having my birthday during this magical season is a blessing, but it's not the only reason I love the holidays. It means so much more to me.
