Yes, I Believe Everything Happens for a Reason

“I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”

This Marilyn Monroe quote has been one of my all time favorite quotes for as long as I can remember. Much of our lives are spent stressing over the occurrence of events. Rather, we don’t give ourselves the opportunity to flourish they way we are supposed to. Many people are so fixated on the root cause the events in their life bestow, however, within this we are losing the capability to thoroughly excel in all our endeavors. Because of this, I have always tried to carry the mindset that “everything happens for a reason."

I believe that there is a plan made for everyone. It's like fate. People and opportunities come in and out of our lives for a reason, and that reason is so we can learn and grow from experiences and or mistakes that we have made. There's a plan. This has been extremely beneficial. I no longer obsess over the negatives, instead, I look at them as a stepping stone to bigger and better things. They happened for a reason. To teach me a lesson, to make me stronger, whatever it may be there was a purpose behind it.

Some may view this mindset as an excuse to escape the negative pressures of life, but I see it as a facet to keep me going. I don’t waste my breath feeling bad for myself, rather I pick myself up and move on. Every experience in life is designed to shape you and reform you into the ultimate and greatest version of yourself that you could possibly be. We can’t control why or how things happen, we can only control how we respond to such things. Sometimes things need to happen because I think sometimes we need to be sure of something.

With that being said both the good and the bad happens for reason. There have been many times that something bad has happened to me and I later realize why. Most of the time I am able to grow as a person. I will always believe in this power. One might wonder why I believe that such minute events constitute a reason. But I believe that this is an effort to make us human. If everything was perfect where would we see room to grow. Imperfections are what make us human. I do believe that every major and minor event in someone’s life is for a reason. The power of this phenomenon constitutes proof that the events we endure during our lifetime are not pure magic, they are planned. They are happening for a reason. Whether we know this reason or not, everything has a place and within this place everything is able to land as it should. I trust in the plan. Its power to give me guidance through tough times and strength when I’m weak is all I need to believe that everything happens for reason.

Whichever perspective you choose, ensure that you pick the one that inspires you to be a better person. That helps you fulfill your life in a way that brings you joy. What ultimately matters is how we choose to respond to the good and bad experiences life throws at us. It is within this that we build a character.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
