Lately, there has been a huge controversy about bisexuality being “a real thing". Many people believe you are either gay or straight. These are a few questions that I have personally answered about being bisexual.
What is bisexuality?
Bisexuality is the romantic and/or sexual attraction between two genders. It is not just people attracted to men and women, but anyone on the spectrum.
If you're bisexual and end up dating someone of the opposite sex, doesn't that make you straight? This is a question I see a lot, and to keep it short and sweet, the answer is no. Someone dating someone does NOT automatically "delete" their attraction to another gender. The same goes for dating someone that is the same gender as themselves-that does not make a bisexual person gay.
So if you're bisexual, are you attracted to everyone?
This is a question most people need to think about before they ask. Are YOU, within your sexuality, attracted to everyone you see? Just like being straight, you aren't attracted to every one of the opposite sex.
Are bisexual people more likely to cheat?
Not any more than anyone else. Just because they are attracted to more than one gender, does not mean they will be attracted to or will act out on more than one person at a time.
What is the difference in bisexuality and pansexuality?
Bisexuality means you are attracted to two genders. Pansexuality means you are attracted to ALL genders. An easier way to remember this is to know that the prefix “bi" means two, and “pan" means all.
If you're bisexual, does that mean you are polyamorous and do open relationships?
You can be either monogamous or polyamorous. Just because you are attracted to more than one gender, does not mean you date more than one person at a time. This does NOT go for everyone that is bisexual, though.
These are a few questions people that are bisexual get asked more than they should. Bisexuality has been around since the 1800's at least and is not something that is new. Many people hide their sexuality as some people don't take them seriously about it. If you have someone close to you in your life that is bisexual, make sure they know they are valid and loved, as this topic is becoming very talked about and spread.
