Yes, be a teacher!!

Growing up I always knew I was called to be a teacher. It was always in the back of my mind when I told everyone in middle school I was going to be an orthopedic surgeon or in high school when I said I planned on becoming a speech pathologist then changed my mind back to a doctor than to a lawyer then maybe an economist.

I hardly mentioned the possibility of going to school to be a teacher to anyone because I was told from a young age NOT to be a teacher from other teachers, guidance counselors, and even my parents. I was so confused why did they not want this future for the upcoming generation? I've always respected and admired those who choose to teach. Why isn't this profession encouraged as much as the others? Why are they staying in this career if they are discouraging students from becoming teachers? It was almost like they were saying be something better than a teacher...

The truth is it's not that they were not wanting to be supportive, it's that they know teaching is a lot more work than it seems, that good teacher is not paid enough, that it can be extremely frustrating and challenging at times. However this career is right for you, it can be the most rewarding thing.

Teachers get to share their passion every day in their classrooms. Teachers get to inspire the next generation of leaders. Teachers make a real impact on children's' lives by forming bonds with their students. Teachers get to work alongside other teachers who want nothing more than their students to succeed. Teachers get to go into work every day knowing there's a new day with new challenges to face, so they're never bored. Teachers get to witness "ah-ha" moments their students get when things finally start to make sense. Teachers, sometimes, are the only person in their student's corner, so they get to be a hero. Teachers have the best job. And teachers have the summers off, which is an added bonus.

In case no one is your life is telling you, YES BE A TEACHER! Teaching is definitely a passion, so if you feel called to be a teacher; do it! All the minor frustrations that come along with teaching will be insignificant you see the students that you've taken on as your own, succeed.
