At the start of every new year many begin to make new year resolutionsin order to become more of the person they want to become. Some people want to lose weight, others want to eat healthier, and a few want to grow spiritually, whether that be by reading the Bible all the way through or praying more. However, sadly these resolutionsare hardly ever kept throughout the whole year, but what if they were? What if we put as much effort into growing spiritually as we did into school or finishing a TV show on Netflix? If the new youwasn't exactly ten pounds lighter or whatever you have pictured in your mind, but what if the new youwas the man or woman God has wanted you to be all these years?
If only we could read and be engrossed in God and His word as long and as much as we are consumed with our interest and hobbies. This year instead of making endless resolutions that we probably will never fulfill after January 31st, let's focus on being who God wants us to be. Let us focus on loving one another, according to John 13:34-35, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” We must have love in order to be considered a disciple of our father. Let us focus on encouraging our brothers and sisters as stated in 1 Thessalonians 5:11, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” Colossians 3:12 says, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience,” which further instructs us to dwell on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
When you let go of all of our expectationsand let God take control of the you that you WANT to be. This year let us all let go and let God take control and mold us into all that He wants us to be, because if we are all that He desires us to be than what more can we ask for. Isaiah 64:8:
Yet you, Lord, are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand.
