7 New Years Resolutions To Follow Through With This Year
The Joyful Organizer

Every year it seems that we write down a list of resolutions that we want to happen for the new year but most of the time, no one actually follows through with them. Our resolutions range from vowing that we would sign up for that gym membership or declutter our homes or find the right person but truth is, no one seems to really follow through with their hopes and dreams for the new year.

This year it is time to change that. Trump is president and we may as well live while we can right? Get a pen and paper and write down the following resolutions to spark up your new year. Some may be dreams that you actually have to pursue and others can have personal meaning to you.

1. Find a form of exercise that you enjoy.

It can be Crossfit, a gym membership, personal training, weight loss, sport, or a yoga class. Find the exercise that you are interested in and will pursue.

2. Eat a healthy diet.

A large percentage of the United States is obese or above the weight for the average adult. As yummy as those cookies look or that frosted cake sitting in the window, say no and save those sweets for a special occasion. There are plenty of foods to create that are both healthy and taste good!

3. Find the friends for you.

Throughout our lives, we have friends that come and go and we want the ones that will always stay by our sides through thick and thin. If someone isn’t being the person you thought they were or they aren’t good enough of a friend, cut them loose, you don’t need negativity in your life.

4. Find something that makes you happy.

If you are one of those people that constantly seeks happiness or self love in your life, it’s time to put your dreams into action. If going on hikes with your dog or visiting new local coffee shops makes you happy, then what are you waiting for?

5. Check off the things on your bucket list.

You only have on chance to live your life so why not try to find time to check those things off on your bucket list? Do it now! Take the time off work or school and go study abroad or go skydiving or get your scuba diving certification. You might be missing out on some great bucket list things and why wouldn’t this year be the perfect time to check them off?

6. Put yourself out there.

If you are recently single or have been for quite some time, it’s time to put yourself out there. There is nothing wrong with using a dating app or a dating website to go out on dates. Just because there are no cute guys in your building or on your campus doesn’t mean that there aren’t any in your area! You never know what you might find if you don’t take a chance.

7. Spend more time talking to people rather than browsing social media.

We live in a world where social media surrounds us and engulfs us. It is in our every day lives and it seems that we can’t get enough of it. Maybe it’s time to take a break from it, take a breather. Vow to not get on any social media for a few days at a time, which may turn into a few weeks or months. It’s time to see the world yourself, not through Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat.

2017! It’s a brand new year. A new year to live life the way you want to live it and a year to start over. It’s the year to put everything behind you and focus on the future. Let’s face it, you can’t get very far with the past still attached to you. 2017 is about finding yourself and changing your life for the better.

We can’t live every year alike. So many things happen all around us and right in front of our eyes but we won’t see them unless we open our eyes.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
