New Year's Resolutions You Can Actually Achieve

At the beginning of each year, we all set certain resolutions we would like to accomplish throughout the year, but how many of you actually accomplish them? We often find ourselves too busy or distracted from our original goals. So why not make 2017 the year you actually meet these goals? With these small tips and tricks you will be sure to meet this year's resolutions the easy way!

1. Make a resolution that only takes up 10 minutes a day.

We all need to have some kind of small goal to meet that doesn't completely stress us out. Reading a chapter from a book, finding new music, working on a long crafting project or even face timing a friend, all of these will help you stay stress free from all the work and school dramas. Face it, we all have time for one 10 minute break, just be careful not to go over that 10 minute limit.

2. Find a workout routine you enjoy.

Everyone wants to lose weight and be the perfect size for summer, but do you realize how hard this goal is to meet? Even if you do lose the weight you want to lose, there's a pretty good chance you'll gain it back if you don't keep up with your workouts. Those crazy power workouts you hear about are not easy to keep up with. Finding a workout that you enjoy doing will make it much easier to want to fit it into your schedule. Try Zumba or something you've never tried until you find the workout for you!

3. Plan a weekly event with your friends or family.

Going out to lunch doesn't take more than an hour or so. Making time for the people you love and have fun with will make your entire week better. You'll be able to focus on your goals more with the people who support you right behind you. There's no doubt that you'll be able to keep your head straight after talking to those who support you most.

4. Replace two unhealthy snacks with healthy ones.

We all have a collection of snack foods we turn to when we're bored or don't feel like leaving to get a real meal. So, the next time you go shopping, don't stop buying snacks all together, but simply buy two healthy items. You can keep the one bag of chips, but do you really need two? Try pistachios or apple slices.

5. Work toward your major career goals.

2017 is the year to throw yourself out there and make your life better for the future. Try finding an internship to work up to your career, or find a job that will help you in the future. Working up the job chain will only lead to being paid more later in life.

6. Work on your finances.

There are so many different plans you can follow to save $1,000 a year, but most of them end with putting away more money a week than you can afford. There's nothing wrong with making your own plan. Collect your change from now until June. Then save it again from June to December. You'll be surprised with how much money you'll save that easily. Try putting away 25 percent of your paychecks. Make sure you have enough to pay your bills, but always try to leave yourself a little extra to have fun.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
