A cool gust whipped across my face,
As the water lapped at my feet,
And the movement of the river rocked my body.
Calm waters quickly turned,
Into uncontrolled torrents.
Throwing the raft to the forces of nature,
Stunning but lethal.
Within a second,
I was swallowed,
And felt nothing of the raging ahead.
Only the calm of the current.
Trapped under the very device,
Used to keep passengers afloat.
Fear flooded over me.
The silence was deafening.
Perhaps I was floating
In this murky world
Where sunlight gasped above,
Teasing an escape.
My lungs expanded,
Filling with fire,
Wishing for air.
Reaching for the sun,
I burst from,
The murky hush,
And grasped onto familiarity.
