Not specifically for New Year's, just for life.

Get up with your first alarm

I know, I know, it's hard. Mornings are tough and very few look forward to them. But by getting up with your first alarm, you force yourself to get moving more. There's less time to lay around and procrastinate and think about skipping class or work. It also gives you just a little more time to get ready in the mornings instead of running late after your 5th alarm finally gets you up.

Find a reason to smile every day

Everyone has bad days. There's always something that doesn't go as planned. But that doesn't mean we can't still smile. When you smile it starts to trick your brain into thinking you're happy. And everyone looks great in a smile!

Wash your sheets more often

One of my favorite feelings is crawling into freshly washed sheets (bonus if they are still warm!). Plus sheets need to be washed more than most of us actually do wash them. Take a few hours out of your weekend to wash your sheets and make your bed each month. It is one of the most refreshing feelings when you finally get to crawl into bed afterwards.

Write down the good moments or things that make you smile

Right now it may seem silly and tedious, but it will be worth it. It just has to take a minute. Grab an old notebook, journal, piece of paper, or phone and jot down whatever just made you laugh until your sides hurt or smile like an idiot or made you feel special. When you look back on these memories you'll be glad you wrote them down.

Put your clothes away as soon as you take them off

Whether you plan on putting the same thing on again tomorrow or not, put it away. If you are in a rush and tried tons of different shirts on with your jeans, put them away. It may be time consuming now, but you'll thank yourself when you come home after a long day to a clean floor, bed, or chair. I know as much as anyone, once one shirt is on the floor, all my other clothes end up there as well.

For every bad thought, think of two good thoughts

I am really bad about having negative thoughts. Some are about myself, other people, or just bad scenarios I imagine. Negative thoughts tend to lead to speaking negatively. So start to break the habit now. Anytime you think of something negative, stop yourself and think two good thoughts to yourself. Soon you just might find your thoughts more positive than negative.

Delete unused apps on your phone

Our phones tend to get cluttered with all the things we download. There are so many useful apps and entertaining games, but do you really use all of them? Start deleting apps you rarely use. It frees up more space on your phone and helps organize things. It's also one less thing you have to see or worry about.

Compliment someone every day

People love to feel validated, accepted, and noticed. And it feels amazing to know that you're the reason for someone's smile or good mood. It might just make you a new friend.

Drink more water

This is a resolution you hear all the time, but it's because it's true. Our bodies need water to function properly. Water helps our organs in so many ways and it makes you feel better. Plus, by drinking more water, it may help you cut back on the soft drinks and caffeine.

Call family weekly

You may say you don't have time or they don't want to hear about your boring life, but you do and they do. It's easy to call them up while leaving work or running errands. And while you may think your life is boring, they love to hear about it. Family loves knowing what is going on it your life and feeling like they are actually a part of it. And it is good to stay in touch with them and actually know what is happening in their lives, too. Sometimes they are the only people you have in life.

Hug more and hug tighter

Hugs are amazing. I love hugs. Why don't we hug more?? It's a great way to show we care and sometimes you don't know just how much someone could use a hug.

Take more pictures

This one goes back to the good memories. It's great to have pictures to look back on to remember some of the amazing times you had. And when some people aren't around, it's comforting to be able to look back at pictures of them.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone does not try to help their self before asking others. How can someone else be expected to help you if you do not first do that yourself? I'm all about helping those that need it when the time comes, however whenever someone does not even attempt to help him or herself first then that becomes a huge problem. As we all have learned, people tend to take advantage of us in one way or another. I am sure we all read this short story when we were younger and it follows that same principle:

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.
