As the New Year begins, most college students will be starting their new semesters. The New Year is a time for relaxation away from school and a time for families to spend time together...not to stress about school! As the new semester approaches, take some time to relax. Here are a few ways to take advantage of your Winter Break before school comes back full throttle.

Take a mini-vacation.

Call your friends and take a mini-trip to the beach...even if it's freezing! Hotels are super cheap at the beach during the winter, but if you get a hotel with an indoor pool and a hot tub you're able to relax in warmth for less than a hundred dollars a night. A night or two in a tropical mini-vacation will surely lift your spirits before school comes back.

Wine and Paint!

Even if you're under 21, you're still able to do Wine and Paint. If you reserve a space early enough, you're able to have a date night or GNO for less than a hundred bucks. You're able to follow the theme of the night but put your own spin on the painting! It's fun and relaxing.

Shopping at new centers

A lot of cities are growing at super fast rates, so you're able to Google new or upcoming shopping centers to plan your trip ahead. A day away from a town that you're used to can put a fun spin on shopping. Buy a few new shirts for the new semester ahead and always shop sales!

More than anything..rest!

A lot of times you may be feeling totally overwhelmed, so take advantage of this break and nap! Use this time to relax and lay on the couch and binge watch 4 seasons of your favorite show. This is a no-stress time! No school work to worry about at all, take advantage of it!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
