The Struggles of A Year-Round Iced Coffee Drinker

While spring & summer are away, iced coffee lovers stay to play.

When the colder months roll around, a lot of change happens. The temperature drops, leaves fall off the trees, and the world gets quieter, but there is one thing that doesn't change during those months and it's my Starbucks order. Here are some things that an all-year round iced coffee drinker deals with during that time period.

1. "Aren't you cold?"

If you spot me clutching my chilly refreshment during the cooler months, don’t ask me this. You will either get an overwhelmingly sarcastic response or a quick “No,” as I flash a smile, turn around and make a bee-line for the nearest heated building.

2. "The Look"

As a year-round iced coffee drinker, I have received stares, glares or other forms of long, intense eye contact from people during the winter months. I accept that not everyone is going to understand my dedication to such a drink during this time of the year. I kindly ask that you refrain from scowling and allow me to enjoy my drink in frosty peace.

3. Missing out on the hype during the holiday season

The blessed return of the red cups and the release of their special menu is less than 20 days away and I’m sure some see it as a holiday all on its own, but personally, I would much rather not have to worry about what’s on the side of my coffee cup this season.

4. What about the hot coffee drinkers?

I guess they just get a free pass during the summer months?! I don’t see them getting outcasted for drinking their coffee in the middle of July, but don’t worry, I’m not bitter.

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
