The xx released their third album I See You on Jan. 13 and it is worth listening to. I've been playing this album on repeat and you should be too.
It has been five years since the release of their second album, but the band's tone is still recognizable. Throughout the new album, you can hear the dreamy duets, hushed vocals, and signature guitar patterns that we know and love.
This album sounds different due to the band's now famous DJ genius, Jamie xx. During the gap between the band's album releases, Jamie Smith released his solo album In Colour. He was nominated for the Grammy Award Best Dance/Electronica Album in 2016 and Best Music Video for Gosh in 2017.
In case you haven't seen it, here is Loud Places by Jamie xx. This guy is talented and his style has influenced songs like Dangerous and Lips in I See You.
At the end of Nov. 2016, the xx gave us a taste of their new album by releasing the music video for On Hold. It's the only new music video we have so far, but I trust that the band has more on the way. My favorite songs are A Violent Noise, Say Something Loving, and Dangerous so I would love to see what they could come up with for those music videos.
Along with releasing an album, the band announced tour dates across the US, Canada, South America, and Europe. I've already bought my tickets because I'm sure they are fantastic live.
If you want proof, here is a video of the band doing karaoke to their song Say Something Loving in Tokyo. They aren't even on stage and they sound amazing.
The band also covered Drake and Rhianna's Too Good in BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge on the date they released their new album.
Check out the album and you won't regret it. As contradicting as it sounds, it is an album you can dance or fall asleep to. That's why I love the xx.
