Ah yes, the classic console wars are finally underway
Every seven or so years Microsoft and Sony battle to steal as much of our money as possible, but the question is, which console will win this war in the next generation? Well, that question is a little difficult to answer outright, so let me explain.
In 2005 the choice was easy when asked what console to choose, without a doubt the winner was the Xbox 360. With a major price difference in Microsoft's favor, big IP's being introduced like Halo and Gears of War, and the birth of online play, it's easy to understand what made the Xbox 360 such a dominant console and my console of choice as well.
However, when it was time for the console wars to begin again in 2013, things couldn't be farther from different. All the trust and faith Microsoft gifted to its community felt wasted on the Xbox One, and I would know, I bought the Xbox One early in its life cycle. The Xbox One was… decent, and that's fine, but it didn't hold a candle to what Sony was popping out on the PS4. The Last of Us, Infamous Second Son, Spider-Man, Killzone, Little Big Planet, I could go on forever. Unique IP's are the best way to ensure people will purchase your console. I mean look at Nintendo, they're in a league of their own because they make unique games and keep them exclusively on their console, which forces people to buy a Switch if they want to play games like Super Mario Odyssey or Animal Crossing.
So now what?
Personally I believe that Sony will once again be the winner of this console war. Sony just doesn't seem afraid to be creative and it shows. Whenever I think of exclusives on the Xbox I just get let down. After nearly two decades what has Microsoft done differently? They still run out the same old half baked Halos and Gears of Wars that no one wants, hell the Master Chief Collection barely even worked on until months after its release date. Sony literally has dozens of new games in mind with all different styles. Platformers, shooters, puzzle games, you can really tell that Sony is pushing for a win this generation. For everything Sony has put on their plate, I sure hope they follow through. Because at least for me, I believe that Sony is going to beat Microsoft once again.
