It's a known fact that our parents aren't very good with communicating with us over technology, no matter how hip they attempt to be. Especially when it comes to the texts your mom sends you. They never cease to be amusing due to the odd thought process (that you will never understand) that is expressed by your mom in her messages. When trying to stay connected to her millennial child who is extremely hyped from this technological age, there are bound to be some communication confusions/no-nos from mother to daughter via text. Here are a few of mine...
In high school, my first job was working at the local Dairy Queen. I was experiencing a lot of other firsts at this time, including the first time I ever told my mom about a guy I had a crush on. Needless to say after I got this text, I never updated her on guys again.
And because I stopped updating her on guys, she casually likes to send me guys she deems "boyfriend material" once I left for college..
She also sends me photos of other men that remind her of me, including lunatic Buffalo Bill from "Silence of the Lambs."
And when I clicked on Buffalo Bill, I realized my mother had just learned what a meme is.
After she learned about memes, she quickly hopped on the Pinterest app bandwagon. She decided to shoot me texts sharing her latest Pinterest inspired decor purchase:
She also likes to send me back-handed compliments.
As well as important information she heard from "the news."
I started to get concerned that I was the only one with a mother who sent such random messages. So I reached out to my fellow counterparts, and I realized I was far from alone. Here are some texts from other proud mothers:
Apparently all moms enjoy talking about pigs, however this was way more punny.
And of course, saving the best for last, this KIK chat. A fellow writer needed to use KIK to contact her mom while she was abroad and couldn't use her cell phone service. She told her mother that "most people get KIK to send nudes." So naturally, her mom started sending her nudes.
So, moral of the story, everyone's mom sends weird texts.
