Seriously 2016 can go die in a fire! Wow, that was a hell of a year! There are not enough words to describe what 2016 was on literally every front. Politically, environmentally, socially, globally, scientifically, economically, morally, emotionally, and everything else in between was just a pile of mush. Why was it a pile of mush? I DON'T EVEN KNOW ANYMORE! Just get me out of this country! Out of this continent! Out of this planet! I AM DONE!

I just...I can't...I can't even...

But you can. Just take a second to wait and think...there is more.

There is more to life, than the emotional beating that was 2016. There is way more life to live and things to be done. It is so easy to let 2016 win and walk into 2017 already defeated. Yes, 2016 was one of the worst years in recent memory. It still hurts me to think about all of the injustices, deaths, ignorance, hate, and indifference that occurred during this past year. But instead of hiding from all of that and letting fear win. I move to propel myself forward.

"Always forward," is the guiding action brought to life in Netflix's Luke Cage. It is a sentiment that does not only apply to the black community but everyone. Always forward towards the good of all people. Forward for the Black Lives Matter movement in the wake of the deaths of unarmed black people. Forward for the LGBTQA+ community in the wake of the Orlando shooting and fight for transgender rights. Forward for the United States of America in the wake of the election of Donald Trump. Forward for the world in the wake of all that we face in this life.

Forward does not mean to forget all that we have done. Forward means to acknowledge, understand, and learn from the past so that we can make a better impact towards the future. All of this pain, and jumbled mess of feelings from 2016 should prompt us all to start 2017 off with a fiery vigor and passion.

But again 2016 can go ahead get buried alive for all I care. Let us stop complaining and starting making 2017 what we want it to be. To push ourselves and the world around us, always forward.

"Sweet Christmas, 2016 was a jive a** turkey!"

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
