I Wrote This At 1:30 a.m. On November 9th

"Never stop believing that fighting for what’s right is worth it."

I Wrote This At 1:30 a.m. On November 9th

It’s 1:30 am on Wednesday, November 9th. I feel like I have no words but could write a novel. I am appalled at what has gone down this night. I am confused. I am angry. I am sad. I can’t describe how I feel.

The fact that there is a man who has bragged about sexual assault has become the next president of the United States is beyond me. I’m not sure if America has realized what it has done. Presidents are role models for our children. They are the face of our country; one that should be respected and looked up to. They are a person that should respect others and work for the betterment of everyone in this country. I do not see Donald Trump as that person.

These next couple of months, let alone four years it will be hard to accept what we have elected and work with what we have. However, I encourage everyone to not give in. Just because people in our country believe one thing or our president believes one thing does not mean we should stop fighting for what we believe in. Get up every morning and work towards the society you want to live in. With all three branches of the government to (most likely) be red, we must continue to strive for what we believe in and not stop until we have the country we want to proudly live in. Sit down and have conversations with people who disagree with you. Work together and create the vision of our country that you share. We are not a country based in hate. We are not a country based upon one point of view. We are not a country of Republicans. We are not a country of Democrats. We are a country made up of everyone; the American people. And after all, it takes a village.

Hillary, thank you. Thank you for your lifetime of service and taking everything life has thrown at you. You have shown the American people and our children that no matter your color, your gender, your sexual preference, or where you come from that we can achieve anything. You have made history and shown us that our daughters, our wives, or sisters, our friends, can run for president of the United States. I am so thankful that my future daughters will be learning about you in their future textbooks; a woman who was qualified, brave, and loving.

To all women, I will not stop fighting for you.

To all African Americans I will not stop fighting for you.

To all Muslims, I will not stop fighting for you.

To the LGBTQ+ community, I will not stop fighting for you.

To all Immigrants, I will not stop fighting for you.

To everyone with disabilities, I will not stop fighting for you.

To the environment, I will not stop fighting for you.

To all my fellow Americans, I will not stop fighting for us.

I encourage everyone to keep fighting and work for justice. Because like the wise woman, Hillary Clinton, once said, We are stronger together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
