We live in a society where people care about how other people perceive them. Everyone is obsessed with the notion that they are under constant scrutiny from everyone around them. Even if this were true, which it isn't, it's important to bear in mind that being who you are is the only thing that is genuine. Why waste time wondering how your quirks can be used in order to judge you? That's what makes life fun. There's absolutely nothing wrong with not caring about what other people think of you. In fact, that actually makes you the best kind of person. Conforming is just something that is unnecessary and makes me feel like i'm living in some sort of unanimous dystopian society.
Just think of how much time we all think about what other people think of us. It wastes so much of our time, to be honest. Instead of living in the moment, people have this constant fear of what a total stranger may think of them. There are so many chances people don't take because they fear they will be judged. Doing what you want and trying different things is what makes life so fulfilling, isn't it? So why put off these activities in the fear that some person that you may never see again will think about you? In fact, you should be flattered that other people are thinking of you. It probably means that they are somewhat envious that they are unable to put aside their fears in order to be who they truly are.
People think they need to be drunk because then they feel as though nothing matters. Why is there this notion that we need to be drunk in order to be carefree? Instead, how about incorporating this mindset into your everyday life. Trying new things is just part of what makes life so great. Who cares if others perceive something as childish or outlandish? You will be the one having the most fun. There is not enough time in the day to be actively judging other people, in the same way that there is not enough time to be worried about what others think.
People may think that individuals who are uncaring are obnoxious, or aggravating, but those are the best people. They are the ones not caring about the stares as they jump up and down on a trampoline, and not caring about the looks as they sing heedlessly in public. Do what makes you happy, and not what you think others want to see from you. There is absolutely nothing wrong with not caring. It just means that you are uniquely you. In the words of Shannon Alder, “Being different is a revolving door in your life where secure people enter and insecure exit.”
