As most newly aspiring engineers believe, humanities and arts are not pertinent to their major. This is a serious misconception. There are many different types, levels, and qualifications that come with being an engineer and to get to the top you must be able to write... and do it well.
From my experience at WPI, I have had to write numerous research papers. These papers ranged from research on women rights to determining the origin of an unknown protein that is used to lower the freezing point of an antifreeze chemical compound. Through writing these papers and hearing guest lectures from Nobel Prize winning writers, I have increased my potential and opened doors to an increasing number of careers.
I've been told time and time again that the best engineers are articulate and concise. Every project, construction, and lab that engineers do requires a form of writing in the form of an abstract, thesis, conclusion, etc... WPI has done its job in teaching me the importance of humanities and I hope to pass that knowledge on in the years to come.
