What if your computer could speak to you?
What do you believe it would say? Hello? How are you? Can you stop hitting my keys so hard? There are probably an array of assumptions running through your busy mind right now. Your gears are turning. Would you be embarrassed by what your computer would say to you or would it maybe be giving you a wake up call?
I have not one clue why this idea popped into my head or how. I was just sitting here, like any one of you reading this, staring at my screen. Sometimes my eyes would dart to my cat sitting beside me or maybe to the fan spinning around and around right above me. The main question still stands though. What if your computer could speak to you?
Now, I'm about to have a deeper meaning behind this as I usually do when thinking of strange topics. That deeper meaning being this: BEING A WRITER IS DIFFICULT. It is. No matter if you are writing poetry, the beginnings of a novel, a song, or simply just an article like this. It is difficult and you will hit writers block from time to time. In my case, all the time.
I believe that many people in this day and age do not take writing seriously. I believe that many "non-writers" or people who believe they are writers, but do not know the half of it, just simply brush the talent off that it takes to become a writer. Let's be honest, the creative arts department in any school or university is being looked down upon day in and day out. It truly is a depressing issue to think about and not many people care because sports is where it's all at. Right? That isn't fair. The talent is being made fun of or being seen as the group of outcasts.
People express themselves through the creative arts. Whether it be through the bristles of a brush, the strings of a guitar, the ink of a pen, or the tapping of a keyboard. Yes. The tapping of a keyboard. This brings me back to the original question. What if your computer could speak to you? Let me give you a bit of insight...
"This line isn't good enough!"
"I believe it is just fine. Continue typing."
"I am too stupid to do this. Why do I even want writing as a career? I can't even complete a small article."
"You are not stupid. You are just simply stuck in a rut."
"Is this why people look down on us? The writers? The musicians? The artists?"
"No. They look down upon you because they do not see what I see."
"I give up!"
"No! Never say you give-- OW! You slammed me shut again."
This is what I believe our computers would say if they could speak to us. I know I've had the above thoughts run through my mind time and time again. I can't be the only one. Maybe some of you reading this understand wholeheartedly. The other part of you may roll your eyes and close out of this piece of writing I spent my own time on. The rest of you may open your minds in realizing writing isn't easy. Nothing is easy. You have to work hard and push yourself to do better and to be better. Nothing is handed to anyone. Not even someone who is "born" with the talent. He or she has trouble just like the rest of us.
Writing is difficult. Playing guitar is difficult. Taking a test is difficult. Life is difficult.
As long as we put ourselves in the shoes of others for a moment, a day, a week or longer then maybe we'll be able to understand why others get upset over things we deem as silly. Maybe we'll be able to realize that not everything is handed to us or comes to us as simple. Keep your minds open and understand that not everything is sunshine and daisies. We all have to take the right steps in order to be someone and no one deserves to be looked down upon for it.
