Dear, My Future Self

Well, right now you are almost done with your first semester of college. Can you actually believe you are almost done with your first semester? It's crazy to me how time just flies by.

Time never slows down or waits for you..or anyone for that matter. The clock keeps ticking and life will pass you by before you know it. You are pretty stressed out with certain things in life but you hope in the future, you will learn to look past everything and be happy for once.

The biggest goal in your life that you intend on reaching is to be happy. Yes, of course, you want to have a job that pays a decent amount of money and a family to come home to every night, but most importantly you want happiness. Don't get me wrong, you are happy today but you want to remain happy. Ya know, no tragic things that could possibly ruin my life and everyone that you are close to.

Right now you're still 18 trying to figure out the rest of your life within the next four years and that scares you. You don't know what's going to happen then but just know that it will all work out. You know for a fact there will be multiple bumps in the road, but you're strong enough to pick up the pieces when they fall. You are hoping that you get to travel in the next year studying abroad in different countries.

Traveling is a big thing in your life that you want to accomplish and I know if you don't, you are going to regret it big time. People learn things when they experience new cultures and that is what you want. You are hoping that all of this depression fades away sometime soon and won't have a single worry in the world... DOUBT THAT'LL HAPPEN THOUGH. You stress about every little thing and sometimes your family gets annoyed with you.. You hope to live somewhere that will make you love living there and meet new people along the way.

Right now, you met so many amazing people in your life and you hope to stay in touch with them as time goes on. You will feel the need to keep moving forward with your life. Another major thing that you would like to accomplish is self acceptance.

For once you should be able to focus on loving yourself instead of trying to get other people to love and accept you. You hope in the future that you will have reached self acceptance and begin to love yourself for who you are. You should promise yourself that you won't have to worry about your looks, your weight, your body... it'll just be you. Confidence is the key to happiness, which you hope to gain over time.

Right now, you don't really know how your life is going to go but eventually when you read this in the future, you will think to yourself "I know exactly where I am and where I want to be.." Life takes you on so many unexpected journeys and you plan to find out what those journeys are. So for now, keep your head up, focus on you, achieve great things... and I'll see you in the future.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
