I took a swim through the mind of a writer. It was strange, yet inspiring. I saw an array of colors that were once missing from the spectrum. As I swam through a school of fish, they appeared more vibrant and clearer than ever before. I felt different. I noticed small details that had prior been invisible to my eyes. I noticed each and every scale upon various fish and the design on the shell of a sea turtle. It was incredible to feel my surroundings within me and travel three levels deeper into the mind to grab out the words that need to be heard.
Writers have a lot in common. We may not all enjoy the same activities or like the same music, but we all know a writer when we encounter one. We perceive the world through the same lens. Every single person, place, or thing is an opportunity to write. We find the story in everything little thing we do. Watching a tree sway in the wind could be an inspiration for a poem. An old couple sitting together on a bench might be the spark that set a story in motion. Anything, no matter how small, can become an inspiration.
I like to write poems, mostly. Some are short, and some are long. Some rhyme, and some don't. I have written hundreds of poems over the course of the past few years and I have yet to run out of ideas. From the moment I awaken to the moment I fall asleep, I am in a state of eternal inspiration branching out from the world around me.
However, sometimes inspiration is lost. Suddenly, the streets turn gray and the sky fades to black and nothing seems to jump out and say, "I am your next subject. Please notice me!" The words stick like glue within our brains, thus failing to climb out of our ears and onto paper. It's unavoidable, but it passes. It always passes.
Writing is like an escape. When my brain gets clogged, I must unclog it to stay sane. Usually, it all pours out at once. The words spill onto my canvas in a glowing light. The emotions I hold in my heart are pulled to the surface of my chest and plastered in front of me in a string of letters I created. The feeling of release writing gives you is an experience like no other.
