Writer's Block? 8 Ways to 'Unblock' it

Writing. The heart of a writer is someone who is ambitious, determined, passionate, and patient. Writing involves countless steps to reach the final product, and sometimes along the process writers face writer's block. Here are some tips to help.

  1. Try Something New. Maybe go for a new type of exercising, cook a delicious dish, or any other sort of hobby. This can help refresh and open your mind. The new skills and experiences can help initiate different ideas.
  2. Go Out. Fresh air can work wonders. It will definitely get your mind focused on other things. Not only that, but going out is also good for people watching. Observing different situations can be interesting and somewhat enlightening.
  3. Enjoy the Work of Others. So whether you like listening to music, reading novels, short stories, watching movies, you can be inspired by the work of other people. Inspiration can come from a band you listen to all of the time, or an author you've never heard of. There is a never ending world of art just waiting to be explored.
  4. A Blast From the Past. This is perfect if you have some sort of memory box or old pictures. Sometimes looking back at the past brings back old memories and experiences. When I cleaned out my room, I found so many childhood toys that made me think about different experiences. Much of these memories were moments that never crossed my mind in years.
  5. Sit and Write. Anything. Sometimes when people write, (or with anything really) they put a lot of focus on trying to make things perfect. Instead of sitting and just thinking, writing down a continuous stream of ideas without hesitating can also help with building ideas. Not worrying about 'perfection' eases the mind.
  6. Have a Conversation. Talking to someone about memories, trends, or even social media shenanigans offer a great way to gain new ideas. People provide different perspectives and elements that a writer could incorporate.
  7. Sleep. I noticed that when I sleep on ideas, i can think about them more in depth the next day. Also, if you have a really interesting dream, that can influence writing.
  8. Carry a Notebook. Even if you aren't currently working on a project, carrying a notebook everywhere is great for future writing. Ideas can come at the most random times and they can be easily forgotten. So having a notebook (or even using an app on a smartphone) an easy way to store all of the passing ideas.

So if you're writing a song, novel, script, an odyssey article, or even an academic paper, these tips can get your brain ready to continue working hard. Most importantly, never give up!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
