I've written quite a few songs in my day. Some positive, some negative. All "inspired" by something.
And I've kinda come to believe that my best songs were written when I felt most broken...or at least when my heart did.
It makes for great music, despite the agony of losing love, and here is why:
1. Your love story is your main inspiration...
Write what you know, y'know?
2. So you re-live all those memories all over again...
Flashbacks & daydreams...maybe a little nightmare-ish.
3. And you literally overanalyze every detail...
Raise your hand if you're the queen of overthinking. *me every time*
4. You totally think you’re getting past it & working through it...
"Yeah, this song is totally gonna help me move on!" - idealist, soon-to-be-disappointed me
5. But you quickly find out that writing about pain brings back the pain...
So like, crying whilst songwriting is totally a thing.
6. Because everything in the song relates to your scenario...
It's like when you find that song that just 100% explains your life...except you're the one that made that happen.
7. But you just can't get it out of your head cuz it's so powerful...
The music & lyrics just embody who & what you are, and that's kind of an amazing thing.
8. So even though you're writing through the tears, you're actually kinda grateful for the experience?
Like you don't wanna think about it, but also you wouldn't have this amazing song without it, so thanks, I guess...
9. And you can take that to the bank...maybe.
Hope you don't mind the entire world bashing you for breaking my heart. ;)
