Depression. It is a subject that has a stigma attached to it. Some people understand it more than others, but do we all know what it is like to suffer from it? For me, yes, I have suffered from depression since I was twelve. It is a pain that no one wants to go through. The feeling of never being good enough, never being happy, or the fear of even being happy can weigh heavy on a person's heart. There is even times when it feels like getting up or doing something productive can be more of a job than the task at hand. The worst part? The feeling that no one truly understands the pain that comes with depression. The feeling of being unable to express your sadness to someone you love. Will someone ever understand?
For me, I had no clue who to run to when my depression got to me. It was like a black curtain enveloped my soul and I could not even find a way to gain happiness again. It hurts. The pain is something that no one wants to go through, but what is even worse is not having anyone to turn to. Guys, If you are suffering there is someone there, or rather an organization. If you have never heard of them, and you suffer from depression, drop what you are doing and look them up now. The organization is called To Write Love On Her Arms, and they never stop trying to help people with mental health issues. The founder is Jamie Tworkowski, let me tell you I am a fan girl of this man. He is my version of Justin Bieber. His words and his organization got me through my depression, my pain, my thoughts. Whats the best part? They let you know its okay to seek help.
Depression has a stigma to it. It should not, but it does. What is the goal of TWLOHA? TO END THE STIGMA. They promote how people need people, and that getting help is good thing, not something to be ashamed of. Jamie bumped it up another notch when he released his book If You Feel Too Much, and for anyone that has a problem getting help, please read!! A personal perspective is that one night I was having a terrible night. I felt like I was not making any progress in my life, and that was killing me.The book was laying on my night stand. I picked it up and turned it to a chapter, that not only helped me cope. It helped me realize that a man, I have never met, is helping me fight against my war with depression. It is not just me, Its the entire United States he is helping.
So, In all what I am trying to say is that if you are depressed, please check out TWLOHA. Jamie Tworkowski has saved my life numerous times. He is a very strong and awesome person that his only goal is to help end the stigma against mental disorders, and help save lives. You're my hero Jamie.
