I'll Never Write A Dream Vision

As an english major, I’ve taken a lot of classes about literature. These classes normally discuss poems and stories written hundreds of years ago. Most of them are definitely not anything I would choose to read if given the option. One of the ancient genres of poems I’ve learned about is called a dream vision. In this type of poem the narrator has had some type of dream and are re-telling it to reveal some sort of deeper meaning. Learning about this type of poem lead me to think about some of the dreams I’ve had. I remember my dreams because I often wake up in the middle of the night and write down what I dreamt about. These transcriptions certainly don’t show the same writing quality as a dream vision. In a dream vision the author recounts the dream in extreme detail. They often go through their emotions in the dream and even switch point of view. I’m normally half asleep when I write down my dreams so it’s amazing that the words I write make any sense. I don’t think any of them are meant to reveal a deeper meaning. Even though I don’t think any of them are worthy of being dream visions, I’ve decided to share some of them.

On March 14, 2016 I woke up at 3:32am and wrote, “ I was in a warehouse with Aunt Becky from Full House. All of the animals were escaping. I was running from the lion but we had to make it throw up.” The only deeper meaning I can gather from this is that I need to stop falling asleep while watching Full House.

A few days later on March 17, 2016 I had another interesting dream; “My neighbor old lady looked like Kathy Bates. She choked me but no one believed me. I was hiding because she was trying to return the umbrella.” This is definitely one of the scarier dreams I’ve had. All I can infer from this dream is that I watch way too much American Horror Story.

A bit more recently on June 4th, 2016 I had a dream about Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez; “I was fourth row at a Selena Gomez concert. Justin Bieber was the opening act and walked through the crowd and hugged me. I was wearing sunglasses. Justin laughed at me then Selena was right behind him and laughed at me.” At least in my dreams Justin and Selena are still together. I have no idea what this could possibly mean but I’m glad Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez both think I’m funny.

One of my more uneventful dreams took place August; “I was walking to class. Tyler Oakley was in front of me. He went to my school. He could hear me talk about him and we were friends. He held the door open for me.” If you don’t know who Tyler Oakley is, he’s a famous Youtuber. He’s also about seven years older than me so there’s no instance when we would ever go to the same school. He does seem pretty cool though so I’m glad my dream self got to be friends with him.

These three definitely are not the weirdest dreams I’ve had. As you can tell, I normally wake up very confused. Maybe other people, like the writers of dream visions, are destined to have amazing dreams that reveal great truths about the world. I’m definitely not the next modern day writer of dream visions.

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. And from that friendship, you may even find yourself lucky enough to have a few more friends, thus forming a group. Here are just a few signs that prove your current friend group is the ultimate friend group.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

Her sister was a member, her mom was a member, all of her aunts were members, and her grandma was a member. She has been waiting her whole life to wear these letters and cried hysterically on bid day. Although she can act entitled at times, you can bet she is one of the most enthusiastic sisters.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September. It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer. The winter has been lagging, the days are short and dark, and no one is quite themselves due to lack of energy and sunlight. Let's face it: life is ten times better in the summertime.
