Would You Rather Have A Sincere Friend Or A Polite Friend?

Honesty vs Kindness

In this modern age of complex relationships and even more complicated friendships, the roles that individuals play are important and constantly being revised. What are the qualities of a good friend? Who is the person you would want to have your back when things go wrong?

The parameters for friendship have been shadowy for as long as I can remember. Everyone has a different set of tastes when it comes to the acceptance of another human being into their social circle. Some people prefer smart types. Others want the goofy jokers.

We all have our friendship stereotypes and the ideal friend we believe would be perfect for us. Or maybe you don’t. Maybe you’re a loner who does not want or need friends. Either way, this still deserves your attention.

As the popular game ‘Would you rather?’ goes, welcome to my universe. You have two options: honesty or kindness… sincerity or politeness.

In this universe, a sincere person is completely honest. He does not lie to you and you can always expect the truth to fall from his lips whether you want it to or not. If you are the kind of person that prefers the bitter truth then you have found the perfect friend to deliver that pill.

Of course, this begs several questions. Does he know when to keep silent? Does his sincerity come with tact? Will he be willing to let the truth remain hidden for the sake of peace? Those are the wild cards for this sincere fellow.

On the other hand, the polite person is completely kind. She does everything she can to make sure you feel loved and cushioned. In other words, she will withhold information that she believes will harm you or hurt you in any way.

She will favor politeness because she deems it fit. If you are the sort of person who wants a cushioned friendship where you are protected and constantly uplifted, this is the perfect friend to you.

But, can you trust anything she says? Will she ever tell you the truth when it hurts? Is she a fake person?

Obviously, many of you would like to choose the person who is a perfect blend of both. You want someone who will be sincere politely. You want a person who will be honestly kind. Sorry, he or she doesn’t exist here. You need one and only one because a sincere person cannot always be polite, and a polite person cannot always be sincere.

So, if you had to pick, which would you have?

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
