So with the year coming to a close, we can finally say goodbye to the disaster that was 2016. But before we finally do that, let's look back at some of the worst things we had to endure. Pop culture, commonly stress relief, became a point of horror. How could people do these things? Who let these disasters happen? Why did we find some of them funny? Read on for a list of some of the worst things the media and it's users endured hearing this year.
1. Harambe And The NY Deer
I’m unsure as to which was worse, the death of the innocent and endangered gorilla in the Cincinnati Zoo, or the endless memes that followed. Harambe was EVERYWHERE, from t-shirts to my school’s poll for a new mascot name. And just when Harambe was dying down, Brooklyn’s miracle Christmas deer who appeared in a park, was killed mid-transport to a safer home. There is no peace in 2016.
2. The Bee Movie Memes
If you haven’t yet seen one of the many, many, many bee movie memes, here’s a link. But rather than watch it, save yourself from the deep hole of clips that will come. The general premise is that every time “bee” is said in the movie, the video will alter. Alterations vary by changing speed, changing the word itself, multiplying the screens, etc. This meme originated on Tumblr earlier this year when people would post the entire script and spam a followers dash with it. To make matters worse, Jerry Seinfeld has commented, saying he has thought of making a second bee movie and he even went to twitter to see the reaction. Jerry, no.
3. An Angry Birds Movie
It existed.
4. Fourth Harmony
Camila Cabello left Fifth Harmony in a wave of confusion. She plans to focus on a solo career after five years with the girl group who were formed on The X-Factor. Multiple publicity statements were made by both the band and Camilla since the announcement of the departure, the band claiming Camilla refused to make it work, Camilla claiming they wouldn’t respect or listen to her. Either way, expect some new music from the two with a much different sound.
5. NO NEW LORDE ALBUM

6. Kanye And Kim
Though the Kardashian hell began long ago, it blew up this year when Kim was robbed, causing the onslaught of conspiracy theories, offensive Halloween costumes, and the disappearance of Kanye mid-show to fly to her. Following that was the fall of Kanye as he suddenly announced that he didn’t vote but would have supported Trump, followed days later by his official hospitalization in a mental institution. We should all probably join him there after the year we had.
7. David Bowie And Alan Rickman Deaths
To lose such a powerful and influential musician was terrible. Bowie was an LGBTAQ icon, famous for being openly bi in a time where it was extremely unfamiliar and misunderstood (although it still is to many) and an AIDS activist, his work is deeply missed. In addition the actor who played childhood icon, though one of a misunderstood background, Severus Snape, Alan Rickman, passed away. 2016 didn’t deserve them; we mourn their loss.
