The worst part about working in retail over the holidays is not the uncontrollable rush of business or the rowdy customers. Nor is it the lack of empathy that such a large portion of the populace feels toward other consumers or employees of the countless stores they visit. The worst part is the Christmas music that plays on a constant loop. Retail shops are already slightly underwhelming in their song variation. When the holidays roll around, they limit themselves to about 20 songs. Not to mention, the majority of Christmas songs are not exactly masterpieces. They are cheap novelty songs that do a decent job of getting their listeners into the holiday spirit. Regardless, they are not the types of songs you would want to listen to at any other time of the year. Even a quality song morphs into torture after listening to repetitions of it 50 times day after day. A terrible song given that same treatment, pure agony.
