From March 22 to April 15, the Mercury retrograde occurs. The Mercury retrograde is when Mercury appears to be moving backward in its orbit. This is due to some fancy optics and geometry.

Considering the Passover, Hanuman Jayanti, and Easter Triduum, all religious holidays fall within these days maybe there is some method to the madness.

If the prophets prophesized it, and the ancients foretold it. It would probably sound something like this. There will come a time when the bright star in the sky moves against the tide of time. In those days, your woman will mistreat you and your man will forsake you.

To all those who believe in astrology, the Mercury retrograde is like going through some serious spiritual warfare. The reason? Mercury is the planet associated with all forms of communication.

By going into retrograde, to astrology believers, their “perfect” universe is suddenly thrown for a loop. Everything begins to move backward!

Lack of communication, sudden loss of interest, daily texts becoming aggressive, old relationships rekindling and much more are all attributed to the simple astronomy dynamics of an orbit. They believe in the retrograde changing their emotional beings instead of just being a cool spectacle in the sky.

Because the retrograde is the “reversal” of an orbit, the universe appears to be in flux. Suddenly, small little triggers that you typically brush off as a daily occurrence or a break up turns into this fight between you and the universe.

How can you even hope to win against the cosmic forces that move planets and destroy stars?

Fortunately, for all you astrologists out there, I am here to let you in on a little secret.

All those forces going on out there in space may be giant and scary. They may appear daunting and intimidating, but they don’t actually mean anything.

Yes, they are cool. Yes, they are scary sometimes. However, just because the orbit of Mercury appears to be going backward, does not mean your life, especially in areas of communication, is going in reversal.

The planets are their own things. They all travel at different speeds around the sun. Sometimes, they all align together. Sometimes, they look like they are going backward, but they are still moving forward in their almost endless orbit around the sun.

The Mercury retrograde does not affect your life. The retrograde is merely a cool looking change in movement cause from the fact that both planets are moving in their own relative orbits around the sun. These relative positions can cause an optical phenomenon that appears to make a planet move backward.

Mercury goes into retrograde three times a year for a three-week period. That means that for every human being ever born on planet Earth experienced retrograde for 18% of their entire lifetime. Are you telling me that almost 20% of all history can just be fessed up to a planetary alignment dishing out bad decisions to world leaders? I don’t know about that one.

Once last time, the Mercury retrograde or any other planetary alignments do not actually affect you. Any effect it has on you is just you are doing it to yourself. Kind of like that stupid little kid game where you hit someone with their own arm asking them why they are hitting themselves.

You can enjoy the retrograde if you want! It is a very beautiful phenomenon in the sky to witness if you get the chance to view it safely. Just enjoy your life. Enjoy space’s endless beauty! Don’t believe the stars tell your future.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
