Reality TV star Kim Kardashian made headlines last night after news broke that she was robbed at gun point in an apartment she was staying at in Paris. It was reported that five men dressed as cops held the concierge at gunpoint and forced him to lead them to Kim. They held her at gun point and stole $10 million dollars worth of jewelry as they tied her up and locked her in the bathroom. Absolutely nothing in this story is humorous. A woman was robbed at gun point, had five intruders steal all her jewelry and feared the worst was going to happen to her. But yet the internet found everything funny and little to no compassion for her. Simply because she is a Kardashian.
The Kardashian-Jenner clan is probably one the biggest polarizing figures we have today. People either are obsessed with them and buy whatever they're selling or they hate their guts and spend every moment talking about how much they hate them. The public's fascination with their every move and their obsession with hating them was the key element used to build the Kardashian brand. Even a blind man can see that the Kardashian empire is not failing anytime soon. Even though the media attention has propelled them into a larger than life category, Kim Kardashian is still a human being. Yet the world's eagerness to rip her shreds has her being treated as anything but that. She still is a mother and a wife. She shouldn't be treated as fair game. When the news broke of her being robbed last night people immediately were tweeting about how she deserved it and much worse. Some either blame her for being robbed, or believe this entire thing is another Kardashian media mastermind stunt.
I don't even know how those two subjects correlate but whatever...Let's move on.
Yes, the Kardashian's have had their fair share of publicity stunts throughout their time in the limelight but it's very unlikely this robbery was orchestrated by them. She's Kim Kardashian, not Ryan Lochte
Wishing Kim Kardashian got shot instead of walking away unharmed was a very popular sentiment on twitter last night.
There were even tweets mad at her husband Kanye West, for leaving in the middle of his live show in Queens. Fans expected Kanye to continue on with his show just after hearing the news his wife was held at gunpoint. A lot of the "why does she even have that much jewelry with her in the first place?" tweets continue the victim blame game that society does whenever a woman is attacked. People's first thought went to finding Kim at fault rather than asking if she or her two young children were harmed. These tweets were so brutal it makes me wonder what Kim Kardashian has done to even deserve this type of wrath? These tweets say a lot about where we're at as a society and how desensitized we are towards not only violence but violence towards women.
