The Best Moms Of All Time

My mom states she doesn't have a favorite child because we all annoy her equally.

The Best Moms Of All Time
Danny Young

It has been 102 years since Woodrow Wilson declared Mother's Day a national holiday! They have picked you up when you are feeling down. They have cared for you, adored you, fed you, and even wiped your butt at a point in your life. Moms, you are the best. I hope you enjoyed every minute of it!

What unfolds next is a ranking of the sweetest, kindhearted, and even some of the most badass fictional mothers on this planet.

10. Marge Simpson (The Simpsons)

From raising three children to being married to Homer, who seems like more than a handful to take care of, Marge earns the #10 spot on this list for her kindness, patience, and Kid N' Play type hair.

9. Lorraine Baines McFly (Back To The Future)

Okay, I know what you are thinking. Yes, she did have a huge crush on her own son, and flirts with him heavily in 1955. But 1985 "non-alcoholic" Lorraine is great. She loves her husband, children, and does not have the hots for "Calvin" (Marty) anymore.

8. Helen Seinfeld (Seinfeld)

For dealing with the "#1 Dad" and her comedic son, Jerry. Although living in Florida, she has never stepped foot in a body of water, and thinks Jerry is perfect (My mom thinks the same of me). She also said "How could anyone not like him?" referring to Jerry (Again, my mom thinks the same about me). That is a true loving mom right there.

7. Sandra Green (Friends)

One reason Sandra Green receives the #7 ranking is because of her daughter, Rachel (bravo, nicely done). Other reasons include that she is a firm believer in the Atkins Diet, she is very kind, and in the "Ugly Naked Guy" episode, she refers to him as "unattractive nude man." Spot on, Mrs. Green, spot on.

6. Estelle Costanza (Seinfeld)

Dealing with both Frank and George Costanza may seem like a comedy to us, but to Estelle, this is a nightmare. With Frank's random ideas and thought-provoking one-liners, walking in on George "treating himself like an amusement park," and even when George converts to Latvian Orthodoxy, Estelle has seen it all. What mom wouldn't want their unemployed, short, stocky, bald son living with them?

5. Martha Kent (Man of Steel)

She helped raise an alien from the planet Krypton, who is now Superman. She has seen her husband die, witnessed an alien invasion, got choked and thrown by General Zod, and (spoiler alert) witnessed her son dying in "Batman v Superman" (is he dead?). She earns spot #5, moving along!

4. Ellen Ripley (Alien)

This badass mom goes to outer space, finds out her crew has been killed by the merciless Alien creature, kicks the Alien's ass, and returns back to cryostasis for her return trip to Earth. My mom would have lasted five minutes aboard that ship (Sorry, mom, we all know it is true). Ripley's bravery, '80s hair style, and tenacity puts her at #4.

3. Ma, The Meatloaf (Wedding Crashers)

Although we do not see her in the movie "Wedding Crashers," we can assume she is awesome. Will Ferrell's character Chazz Reinhold, who was a former wedding crasher lives with his Ma. We never know what she's doing back there, but we don't care. We just can't wait to try out her famous meatloaf, because all Chazz is worried about is the meatloaf!

2. Sarah Connor (Terminator 2)

This ass-kicking, aviator-wearing, AK-47-holding mom has delivered some serious "don't f*ck with me" moments. From taking down the Terminator and Skynet (multiple times, due to time travel and alternate timelines... confusing, I know), she raised her son to follow in her footsteps and did so with courage, bravery, and compassion.

1. Mrs. Gump (Forrest Gump)

Everyone deserves a mom like Forrest's. Loving, compassionate, caring and understanding. Because amazing quotes like...

"You can tell a lot about a person by their shoes; where they go, where they've been."

"Sometimes we all do things that, well, just don't make no sense."

"Life is a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."

Mrs. Gump has earned that #1 spot.

BONUS #1: Sheryl Young (My mom)

It took me a very long time to find this picture, but it is more than likely 12 years old. You think I am in Kent right now studying for a final, but I decided to surprise you on this special day, and now I am sitting next to you. Thank you for coming to countless track meets, watching "Jaws" with me at the age of five, making home-cooked meals, putting money in my bank account as I withdraw on foggy weekends, and supporting me in everything I do. You are everything and more I could ask for in a mom, you are the real #1 Mom on this list. Love you and hope you have a great Mother's Day!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
