The World Cup Comes Back Home: A Recap

I, along with millions of other U.S. Women's National Team fans, have been waiting for this moment for 16 years. On Sunday evening, the USWNT beat Japan in a revenge match after a heartbreaking loss in 2011. This time, the outcome was what we all wanted, a solid win.

I wish I could have been in Vancouver to watch this game, but instead I was surrounded by family screaming at the TV, which was just as good as actually being there.

So I want to start by just about worshipping Carli Lloyd. Her hat trick on Sunday was the first hat trick ever in a final for the Women's World Cup. And her three goals came in the first 16 minutes of the game. Her Wikipedia page was updated to include some key information:

Her first goal came less than three minutes into the game.

She followed up that goal with another two minutes later.

Her third goal, to complete her hat trick, was seriously from midline. I don't know how she managed this, but it was beautiful. And this was why she won the Golden Ball Award for the tournament.

Now let me talk about the other two goals. They were equally as beautiful, and the excitement level in our house was out of control. Shout out to Lauren Holiday and Tobin Heath for your awesome goals!

Happy Birthday to Megan Rapinoe. Winning a World Cup has to be the best present in the world. She played so fantastically Sunday evening, which is typical for her, and her presence in the game allowed for her teammates to make those unbelievable goals.

Then we need to talk about Hope Solo. Beast Mode was on. She killed this game and made it look easy while doing so. She was giving a lecture on how to be the world's best goalie. Also, shoutout for winning the Golden Glove for the second time in a row!

And because I go to UVA, of course I have to give some major props to our own Hoo, Morgan Brian. She started the game, and played the entire 90 minutes. She was involved in every goal, even if she didn't touch the ball herself. She allowed the goals to be set up and orchestrated to perfection. She is 22-years-old, and has a huge career ahead of her.

Of course, we have to talk about Abby Wambach. Her role in this World Cup was different from the roles she had taken on in 2003, 2007 and 2011. She wasn't played as much, but when she was in the game, she made a huge impact. This win was amazing to watch, and when she was put in the game in the 79th minute, there was a huge increase in energy. She will always be one of my all-time favorite soccer players, and her legacy is so important to Women's Soccer and soccer in general. Her reaction to FINALLY winning, was what every other American soccer fan was feeling.

Also this:

The after-party in the locker party looked like a party everyone would have enjoyed. Everyone looks so unbelievably happy, which they totally deserved.

Everyone else on the team who I didn't mention was fantastic, too. This team proved the naysayers wrong and deserves to be called the best team in the world. I know that I won't ever forget this game. I thought that I was going to have a heart attack, even though the U.S. had a lead the entire game. Japan played well, but the U.S. team played perfectly. This was the team that knew they were going to win a World Cup. Finally.

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.
