The Best Summer Workout Playlist

Need inspiration for your workout tunes?

30

Summer is a time for family, friends, lounging by the pool, and soaking up the sunshine. Summer is also a time when everyone decides to renew their New Year’s Resolutions to be fit and in shape. This summer, I, along with nearly every other college-aged person, have jumped on the summer workout bandwagon and have discovered that the secret to a great workout is a rockin’ playlist. Music that is upbeat and empowering can make or break that extra sprint, rep, lap, or mile of your workout. I love looking through other’s workout playlists in order to find inspiration to beef up my own.

Below is a list of all the songs on my current Workout Playlist. Now you may not appreciate the same sort of music that I do, and that is perfectly okay. I have a secret love affair with Maroon 5 and Queen, and deep down I want a cowboy to write a beautiful country love song about me, so you could say that my taste in music is somewhat…odd. This is merely to serve as future inspiration for any of your music playlists. Without further ado, here is my super awesome workout playlist, currently entitled on my phone as “Dontcha Wish Your Girlfriend Was Hot Like Me”:

1. “Anyway You Want It” - Journey

I love using this song as a warm up/pump-up combo. It puts me in the right mindset to begin my workout, and its fast beat gets my blood pumping and ready to go.

2. “Whatever She’s Got” - David Nail

This glorified country song is one of my favorites, I mean, ladies, tell me you can listen to this song without wishing it was written about you? Yeah, I didn’t think so.

3. “Hell On The Heart” - Eric Church

This song is a feel-good one, mainly because whenever I hear this one, I imagine Eric Church himself singing this song about me. This song keeps me motivated to push on right as the first wave of fatigue hits my workout.

4. “Shut Up and Dance” - WALK THE MOON

This song is so current and massively overplayed, but I am in love with it. It is fun and lighthearted and super upbeat.

5. “Firework” - Katy Perry

This one is very near and dear to my heart for many embarrassing reasons. Not only does Katy Perry nail those empowering lyrics, but also this song has a fabulous dance (that I made up) to go with it. This is a perfect pick-me-up to add to your playlist.

6. “Honey, I’m Good” - Andy Grammer

One of my roommates from this past year made me appreciate this song after realizing that it was the perfect song to tackle the Stairmaster with. This song is now my permanent stair-steppin’ song, as its beat will keep you trudging up those stairs as fast as you possibly can.

7. “Story of My Life” - One Direction

This is another one that I use solely for my climbs when I am on a long bike ride while at the gym. The chorus is the perfect length to make you work extra hard.

8. “Fat Bottomed Girls” - Queen

This is, in all honesty, my absolute favorite song on earth. I know, sounds crazy, but I swear I have known all of the lyrics to this song since I was about six years old. Queen is one of my all-time favorite bands, and this is my ultimate pump-up song. If you are looking for a lighthearted, kick butt song, this one is for you.

9. “I Know I Look Good” - Lady Te

This is a hysterical song that has a great message. Many people don’t realize that this bad one has been around since 2003, but it is great to listen to for a confidence booster. You go girl, rock that sweaty workout hair.

10. “22” - Taylor Swift

Because Taylor Swift. Heck yeah.

11. “Sugar” - Maroon 5

I am honestly shocked that this is my only Maroon 5 song on this playlist. Utterly. Shocked. Once again, this song has a great beat and is fun to run/bike to, plus the greatest band in the world sings it.

12. “Hungry Like the Wolf” - Duran Duran

This one is a classic, how could you not like it?

13. “Geronimo” - Sheppard

This is one of my go-to songs for when I am riding on a bike. It’s beat helps you keep a great pace while riding, and the chorus is the perfect length to climb those high-geared hills.

14. “Turn Down for What” - DJ Snake and Lil Jon

We all have that one song on our playlist that we don’t exactly know why it is there. This is that one on mine.

15. “Beds Are Burning” - Midnight Oil

Another one of my all-time favorite songs, “Beds Are Burning” is the song I jam out to with my dad when it comes on the radio. It has a solid, strong beat, and how can you resist singing along with it when it comes on?

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
