Working In Retail As Told By 'The Office'

You hear people say, "Retail is hell," but you don't know the true meaning of that until you actually work in retail. It's definitely not all bad, but it does have its moments. You know the "the customer is always right joke" you see in movies and TV shows? It's not a joke. You work your butt off to please customers, even when they are as far as they can possibly be from being right, and they get defensive when you politely explain the reality of the situation. Regardless of how your interactions with customers go, at least you (hopefully) have awesome coworkers to help you get through the rest of the day.

1.That feeling when you spent the night out with your friends and you have to open in the morning

2. Calling your coworker by their nicknames, whether they know that they have one or not

3. Your reaction when you're the only one on the floor and your department gets a call on Line 1

4. How you feel when you clean out the fitting room and come back five minutes later to find 52 dresses, 14 shirts, a mirror and three pans in one room

5. When you see a customer walking towards you and you quickly jump over the racks and hide so that your coworker has to help instead

6. The face you make when your boss calls and wakes you up to ask if you can come into work early

7. When you're working POS and the customer starts explaining to you that the information on your computer is wrong because the sign says {blah blah blah}

8. When the customer asks to speak to your manager and the manager tells that customer that they were wrong and you were right

9. That day when you pray for nothing to happen but then you realize how boring it is when nothing is going on

10. When customers start telling you their life story in the fitting room

11. The only thing getting you through your shift is the 15-minute break that you get to take halfway through

12. You think your associate's discount is better than it is so you spend more money than you make

13. The face you make when you actually convince someone to sign up for your store's credit card

14. When you're ready to have fun on your day off because you know tomorrow you go back to work

15. How you wish you could respond when a customer asks how YOU are doing

16. When you find out you and your favorite coworker are scheduled for the same shift

17. Where you wish you were instead of at work

18. When someone walks in five minutes before the store closes

19. When you're walking to clock out and someone stops you to ask you a question

20. How it feels when your coworkers start leaving you to go back to school

21. When they announce that the store is closed and customers are still browsing items in your department

22. No one knows what they're doing in retail

23. Your mood at the end of a long shift

24. When it's time for you to go back to school and your boss asks if you want to transfer

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
