It's 2018. Who has time for themselves anymore?
It's all about completing that task on time for your boss or making sure mom, dad, and siblings are happy at home. There are just about a billion things we do every day. As the years pass, I notice our daily to-do lists get bigger and bigger. We're living in a generation that has a huge focus on multi-tasking and getting things done.
If you think about, that's how we were brought up. All those projects and tests and deadlines in high school? We were brought up to think multi-tasking is completely okay. Ask any other older person from a previous generation and they would think you are crazy. Working two jobs, going to college to get your degree, studying basically all day, going to clubs and extracurricular activities, AND making sure everything is smooth sailing at home with your family. It can be a lot to handle.
So in a world like this, when do we ever have time for ourselves? I mean, actually take time off to pamper yourself. Whether it's going on vacation or even just taking an evening walk. When's the last time you actually took time to take care our yourself? We're living in such a fast-paced generation that we forget to take care of our bodies. Do yourself a favor and listen to your body. Your body works tirelessly all week, so just give it a break!
Doing simple things like walking the dog or getting a manicure, there are so many ways you can choose to incorporate pampering time in your daily schedule for yourself. Some of us work even while we're sick just because the boss wants us to get that task done before the deadline. Getting sick is your body's way of telling you to take a break. So when you decide to ignore your body's signal, you're neglecting a warning that could spiral into something more.
Another huge "disease" that has become unavoidable is stress. I mean it's everywhere. Millennials see it more than any other generation. Stress is proven to be one of the biggest risk factors for heart disease and cancer. We're ruining our health from such a young age. You ask how do we avoid it? It's hard living in a fast-paced generation that revolves around stress. The only way we can avoid stress is to do at least one thing a day that makes you feel relaxed. Whether it's taking a bath or sitting in your backyard watching the sunset, whatever you do, make sure you feel at peace.
Let's work to keep our bodies happy and healthy. Let's keep the focus on living a balanced life because that's the only way we can prevent our bodies from breaking down.
