Working in retail is seen by many as a rite of passage. People obtain retail jobs in high school or college as a way of paying for their clothes, food, or nights out. It feels pretty awesome being able to go out on your own or buy the things you want without having to ask your parents for money. However, retail can also be a pain. The long hours, rude customers, and bad scheduling make it hard to deal with sometimes. Though the stores may differ, there are some feelings everyone who's worked in retail can understand.
1. When your boss tells you you have to work on the day you asked to have off a month earlier.
2. When you've been the only employee on the floor for three hours and your co-worker clocks in.
3. But then they try to steal the customer you've been helping for over an hour.
4. When you get your schedule and find out you and your best friend have the same day off.
5. So you spend the day sending Snapchats to your co-workers like:
6. When you're asking a customer if they need help and they immediately start complaining about their last experience at the store.
7. The customer that comes in and talks down to you because they think you're not as good as them for working in a store, so you're like:
8. When the store closes at 9 p.m. and a customer comes in at 8:59 p.m.
9. After working a full shift, closing the store, cleaning, and locking up, the manager asks you if you can stay a little bit later to help with stock.
10. The next day when your co-worker calls you at 6 a.m. because they can't make the opening shift.
11. Wondering if this job is really worth the aching back and feet.
12. But then you get your paycheck and remember why you stay.
