Before Going To VT 4HELP, Know This

If you don't know what 4HELP is, it's Virginia Tech's tech support line where students, staff, parents, and the occasional regular person can go for technical support. Whether you need help connecting to wifi, can't remember your PID password, having problems with email, or some other issue that you just can't figure out, 4HELP is there to help.

Before you come to 4HELP though there are a few key things that you need.

1. Know your PID and ID number. Most of the time 4HELP will not be able to do anything for you unless you have this information.

2. Figure out what your problem is. If 4HELP does not know what your problem is it is very difficult to solve it.

3. Figure out the form of contact that you want to use. You are able to call, email, and talk in person. Usually, a quick phone call can solve your problem but if you are having too much trouble you can go to Torg bridge for some hands-on help.

Here are some common problems that the average student might have.

1. Connecting to wifi – If you are a freshman you received a pamphlet in those amazing orange bags that 4HELP handed out to you during orientation, in there are some instructions on how to connect to wifi. If you happened to accidentally throw that lovely paper away here's what you need to do. First, go to onecampus.it.vt.edu sign in and find network password and that's it! Super easy!

2. Setting up Office365 – For this issue, most people either have not signed for the software yet or are using the wrong password. You can check if you have signed for your software by going to adadmin.w2k.vt.edu and checking your software status if you have a red X you need to go sign for your software in Torg. If you have signed for your software and can't sign into my.office365.vt.edu you most likely are using the wrong password. You have a PID password and a HOKIES password. Your HOKIES password is what you use to sign into office. You can make your PID and HOKIES password that same by making a unified passphrase in onecampus.it.vt.edu.

3. Forgot your PID password – There are steps you can follow on the sign in page through forgot the password to change your password but if this does not work you will need to call into 4HELP and they will be able to help you change your password.

These are some of the most common issues that students have during the first week of school. If you have technical issues and can't figure it out 4HELP is there to help! What every Hokie should know before getting help from 4HELP

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
