As one of the first jobs that I have ever had, working in an art museum is one of the best experiences I could ever ask for. I spend the day answering questions about art, learning about the artists, and helping people understand the stories behind each individual piece of art. I love it because it is such a different experience than other jobs.
Instead of serving food or answering phone calls, I get a chance to interact with artists from around the world, and with people from all around the world who come just to see what the museum has in store. I love that this job isn't sitting in one spot and isn't sitting behind a desk. It has allowed me to become connected to so many people that I can't believe it.
You get to know the people you work with a whole lot better than at most other jobs. Not only that but they are all there because they like working with art. Something that surprises most people is that hardly anyone who works there is an art major, but because we are passionate about the pieces, we choose to learn more about them. The staff is genuinely nice, and they are always excited when people ask questions because it makes our day so much better.
Every day I get to tell stories and see the different ways people react to the different pieces. The museum where I work is special in itself because its architecture is very unique. We get people to come just because they love the building, and they want to see how a building can be made with "no right angles."
From every corner, this museum has a beautiful view. It's almost futuristic and surreal when you walk into the building for the first time, and it is amazing to see the reactions of the people that you know are new. Not everyone will experience art in the same way, and that is one of the reasons that I love this job. We get a lot of opinions about every show, and every piece of art, and it is always interesting to hear what people have to say. I am so glad that I get to work in a place filled with such creative minds.
