Work Friends Are The Syrup To Your Pancakes

Working at a busy breakfast restaurant inside a resort can get stressful, so I'm so fortunate for my work crew that kept each other sane.

My eardrum-piercing alarm goes off at 5 a.m. I lie in bed for a solid 15 minutes before deciding I should probably get to work on time today. I've always been a morning person, but some days can get a tad difficult when it comes to the actual waking up part. I go about my normal routine and grab a small breakfast on the way out the door. After the regular drive down the Cedar Point causeway, I arrive at the Breakers resort and clock in before 7. I look around at my coworkers with their fresh-brewed coffee in one hand and their cell phones in the other. I breathe in the scent of the just-grilled bacon, and within a minute, the doors are unlocked. Game time.

I throw a smile at one of my host friends as he guides a group of guests towards my section in the restaurant. With each table is a different experience, whether it be a party of one trying to get a quick breakfast in or a family of six wanting a nice, long dinner. The stories I have heard while serving are some of my favorites to look back on, but the best part of the job has to be the people I have met working under the same roof. Our Perkins Restaurant crew consisted of a supervisor, a host, three servers, a dishwasher and a couple other various employees who would join in on our conversations and laughter. Inside jokes galore, a lively group chat and several hilarious Snapchat stories later, we had a real bond. I'm not too sure any of us would have survived the whole summer without the others.

We didn't work in just any resort. We were right in the middle of the Cedar Point peninsula, in their elusive on-property Breakers hotel with the beach and Lake Erie water right outside (the perfect way to spend breaks and days off). Also, let's not forget the Starbucks that was right outside our restaurant's door. At first, I was absolutely terrified to start my new job, given I had never served before. I had worked in restaurants, but this was a whole new ball game. We started training as a group of quiet, nervous strangers, and over time a group of us grew together and before we knew it, we were going to the movies and grabbing dinner downtown together on the days we were all off.

I'll never forget some of the funniest times we all shared together. From eating the kid's meal Go-Gurts to making a mess out of the milkshake machine, and of course cleaning it up together, we always managed to laugh until our stomachs hurt. I'll always remember the one time I accidentally dropped a muffin that rolled all the way across our dining room. We were able to laugh about that one for the whole shift. I always looked forward to coming to work, because I knew I would share a shift with at least one or two members of the group. They made it memorable and made me grateful to have gone through with the job, even though I was terrified.

So here's to the extra long shifts, the job I fell in love with, the beach that gave me comfort, the breakfast food that had my wallet always open and the true friends I became fond of. Thanks for a summer I'll never forget, and I can't wait to come back and do it all again.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

11 Moments Every College Freshman Has Experienced

Because we made it, and because high school seniors deserve to know what they're getting themselves into

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!
