Words of Wisdom That Changed Me

Don't settle for the money!

Words of Wisdom That Changed Me

I've always been told a lot of things by people throughout my life. Things such as "You can do anything, work hard and success will come your way". I've even been told things that aren't even totally true, and I believed them until I grew older.

One piece of advice that changed my outlook and lifetime goals was something that wasn't even told directly to me. I read it from a website. It was a quote from the late Nipsey Hussle. It says, "The greatest human act is to inspire."

At first, it didn't affect me because it was just some quote on a website to remember his legacy. Although I respect him and his memory, I have never even met this man. How can a few words on a website, touch me? How can I listen to a man that I have never met and is no longer here with us?

Regardless, it did spark something in me. We are socialized to worry about the amount of money we will make in the future from a young child. In many cases, we are discouraged to strive to do things for others and not for money.

What really stuck out to me about this was how Nipsey's actions spoke louder than his words. He was constantly showing his face in his surrounding communities and actually helping them in any way he could.

Many of the people who try to give me advice, can't even imagine what I have been through in life nor can they relate. When someone can't understand your story but is trying to tell you how to write it, their words don't mean much to me.

Everyone gets inspired by someone at some point in their lives. If your success happens to stem from a moment of inspiration, then you should pay it forward.

Despite the things that I have accomplished and plan to succeed at, I've never felt complete. Because I am someone that started from the bottom, I don't feel comfortable not helping others once I reach the top.

If I can just touch one person, in this world, I will feel like everything I have worked hard for was worth it. Although this article is about Nipsey Hussle's words, Denzel Washington said this in a great way as well.

He stated, "Don't just aspire to make a living. Aspire to make a difference." Between both men and their deep words, I know that I have to change the world and impact someone in my lifetime!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
