I was lost for words,
Drowning in the ones that danced around my head,
That took up space within my mind.
Thoughts became unintelligible,
As I listen to my heart,
Thump, thump, thump.
Words pour out of me,
Faster than the thoughts are formed,
A smile fills the void.
I write in a string of thoughts,
They range from nonsense to garble.
To real-life situations and manifestations of a new encounter.
From tired smiles, morning hellos, colds from a weekend out,
The memories are worth the ache in my chest.
The sound of footsteps,
The echo of voices in the distance,
The mirage of faces,
Sweaty palms and clammy feet.
People crammed into tiny rooms,
Overflowing with outstretched hands,
Spilled drinks stain the carpet,
Hands fall victim to sticky countertops,
As another drink is poured.
Phones record pictures and videos,
Of drunken stupors and encounters,
Tired eyes reveal the amount consumed,
As one turns into two, then three.
I was lost for words,
Thoughts dancing around,
As the room cleared out,
The words I wished to say left unsaid.
