In 1995, Gary Chapman wrote his best-selling "The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate." Since then, millions have used the five distinct categories to strengthen their relationships. The languages are acts of service, physical touch, quality time, receiving gifts and words of affirmation. My most prevalent is words -- shocking, I know. So here's my take on the best way to express love to people who love words:
1) Let them know you are thinking of them.
This by no means has to be elaborate or extravagant. Simply sending a text to remind them that you care is huge.
2) Leave them little notes.
Everything from smiley faces on Post It notes to fortune cookie papers with your signature on them will mean something to the person you care for.
3) Let them talk.
No matter what your love language is, they feel most comfortable using theirs. So, let them tell you about their day and praise you and express themselves to you.
4) Talk back.
They want to know how your day was. Just the act of speaking simple things to them resonates deeply.
5) Do your best.
No matter what you do, effort in itself is the most important thing. Every single word will mean something to them. Use yours carefully.
