Words Hold So Much Power

Do actions really speak louder than words?

Words Hold So Much Power

Words hold so much power. Words, in themselves, are extremely potent. They can make someone fall in love with you, fill eyes with tears, instigate innovation and change, hold a higher meaning, make humans connect with one another and hold countries together or tear them apart. People say that actions speak louder than words and I would not argue the point, but have they thought that words are just as equivalent to actions and that it should be an even playing field between the two? Sure, sticks and stones can break your bones, but words can hurt you. Promises are like chains and they can tie you down because you want to believe them. Lies are like scars that you want to hide and you try to hide, but you still know they are there. Words can hurt and cut and destroy, but they can also heal and love and touch and inspire. Words are like people: they communicate and live and they can hurt and they can heal. Words are breathed into the world by people, but after they've been spoken, their power is still there. Words created revolutions and wars and marriages and unions and victories. Words created civil rights and laws and actions and rebirth. Words elected presidents to rule nations and sent prisoners to death row. Words made you trust your spouse and understand their past, while still accepting them. Words created a character within you and helped you relay that character to those on the outside who don't see or know what is inside you. Words make up books and novels and poems and speeches that revolutionize a nation. Words brought into our existence the creation of laws that would protect humans, create vows that would connect two humans to one another for eternity, the story of how the earth was born or made, legends of humanities past and hopes for the future. Words are created by people and spoken by people and understood by people, but words create who a person is and who a person will become. Words can make you appear nice or kind or cruel or heinous. Words can make you seem understanding or loving or instill in you a sense of sympathy for others. Words can get you out of a bad situation and into a good one or heighten the intensity and misfortune of an already bad occurrence. Words are like weapons with intelligence and emotions and I guess when you think about it, that is how we are, in a way, too. This is why you must think before you speak; you must understand the potency of words and sentences and paragraphs. You must know how words can bring so much pain and suffering, but choose to use them only to bring love and kindness into the world.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
