Words Every High School/College Girl is Unknowingly Dying to Hear

First things first: being a girl is hard work; surviving the high school and college years is a strenuous task. In today’s society, in particular, females are having to deal with social media’s excess pressure on outward appearance and popularity while making comparison inevitable. However, with the right advice and a hopeful heart, each of us will not only make it through but excel in these years.

  1. God created you in His image; He pieced you together carefully and perfectly. He knows you are brighter than the stars that shine in the night sky and more beautiful than a pink, evening sunset.
  2. Your worth is in who you are. It cannot be shaken by your body shape, loads of money, or a 4.0. This culture practically demands that we look and dress a certain way in order to be attractive, but this culture is wrong. You are attractive in all the ways that make you unique - your passions, dreams, fears.
  3. The boy who broke you does not deserve to stick around as you piece yourself back together, and he certainly won’t help you do it. Whatever he did to hurt you, it’s his fault, not yours; it’s his loss, not yours.
  4. The people around you are struggling too. We need each other in this world. The Lord calls us to bear one another in love, yet we waste precious time hiding our emotions in fear of being judged and judging others in the meantime.
  5. Temporary escapes will not bring you eternal joy. Just because it’s easy to take your anger and sadness out on alcohol or boys, doesn’t mean it’s right. In the end, those worldly things will leave you empty and alone. Fix your eyes on what’s above and search for relief in the love and grace of God. He’s waiting with open arms.
  6. Be a light to the world around you. Think of someone you view as a role model, pinpoint what you admire about that person, and recreate the inspiration. The most effective type of leadership is leading by example. Focus less on the frustrating things others are doing and more on what you can do to counteract it.
  7. Failed tests and difficult classes are not the ends of the world. Try and think past this week or this year. You WILL go on to do extraordinary things in spite of a few bad grades. I’ll let you in on a secret: tests only determine one out of seven human bits of intelligence. You are a genius in your own way.

As the negativity of this world attempts to knock you to the ground, keep these truths in the forefront of your mind. Although he cheated, you are worthy of a man so incredible he would never dream of hurting you; now you’re one step closer to finding him. Although it seems as if you are the only person on earth experiencing this much stress and confusion, you are not alone; there are swarms of people around who would jump to the opportunity to love and serve you. And although days are long and comparison is tempting, you are loved by the King, and ahead lies greatness that you can’t even imagine. Keep going.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
