Have you ever come across a perfectly written piece of poetry that just makes the world stop and your heart skip a beat in understanding? Or someone spoke the words you were so longing to hear? Maybe the lyrics of a song made your head spin because your heart finally felt understood. Syllables making words, words and commas making sentences, and sentences flow together to make bigger pictures of a story or message. Words strung together seems so simple but somehow they have the power to change lives, relationships, feelings, minds, hearts, and worlds. And for some reason we were given the gift of communication through them. What a great, but heavy, gift to bear.
Words have the power to give life.
Words have the power to bring death.
Words say more than we mean
and less than we want.
The power of a single word is held in the palm of our hands (or should I say tongue?). Words are sharper than a two edged sword. We must never forget that.
"Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble."
-Proverbs 21:23
Don't speak just to speak. Speak with intention and precision. Our world is full of people who run their mouths. Be someone who graces the world with your words, not someone who crowds the world with your words.
Think then speak. Breath kindness into people. Don't forget how sharp words are.
Growing collections of words said over a lifetime should be beautiful not repulsive. Every word you say can and will be used against you.
