I find myself worrying about many things lately.
What will the outcome of this presidential election be?
What will my future hold?
Why are so many bad things happening all over?
When I was 17, my preacher, Rev. Ron Foulk, preached a sermon about worrying about a year before he passed away as a result of cancer. I remember these words that he spoke, "Do not worry about your life to the point that the worry takes your life away." To me, he was saying if you worry too much, it will take over your life, your every thought. I think of these words often as I heard them at the moment I needed them the most. However, I still get caught up in worry sometimes.
It is easy for me to sit here and say, "Hey you! Stop worrying." It is an entirely different story on whether that can be accomplished or not.
We all have different things to worry about. Maybe you're worried you will be single forever. Maybe you are worried about your future career plans or that you will never find a job you love. Maybe you feel distant in your relationship with a significant other or family member. Maybe you honestly fear and worry about the future of our country.
While I understand that worry is an impossible feeling to evade entirely. It does not have to invade our whole being. It does not have to define who we are.
I encourage you to prepare for future circumstances rather than worry about them. Find a trustworthy and genuinely caring friend to vent to. Maybe he or she can help you put at least some your worries aside. Pray to God that He guides you into the future.
