Happiness In Life Is Walking A Dog, Or Two

One step, two step, three step.

The wind is strong, Snapchat says it is seventy-seven degrees, and the ground is losing its summer green. My eyes move from what is under me to what is in front of me. One step, two step, three step. I see two beautiful dogs moving their legs. One is big and strong, with ocean blue eyes. His two coats of fur protect him from the cold- if anything, they make him adore it. He is a Siberian Husky. He is Maxi. The other thinks he is also big and strong – except he’s not. Weighing only ten pounds, with fluffy white hair and the eyes of an angel, he scares no one at all. He is a Shorkie. He is Tato.

I feel the tug of the leash as it constricts my hand- the dogs want to keep walking. One step, two step, three step. Maxi pulls and pulls. He is a wolf-An animal of nature. A creature destined to run. As the wind rushes past his face, he pulls through it with his snail-shell tail and legs of steel. Maxi’s face is fierce- his eyes focused on the path ahead and his mind with one objective to go: keep walking. To the left of Maxi walks a pooch half his side – it is Tato. Tato is focused. He is determined to lead. He needs to be faster than Maxi. One step, two step, three step. Raised by huskies, Tato fails to recognize his reality that he cannot compete with the big dogs. Nonetheless, he remains concentrated on the task at hand: he must win the race.

One step, two step, three step.

The wind is cool and the summer weather remains, making the two dogs feel astoundingly warm. With rivers dripping from their tongues, the dogs compete to be first. One step, two step, three step. I take my mind off the dogs and close my eyes. I hear the breeze hit my face, taste the scent of nature, and feel the dogs walking by. I open my eyes and look further up – there is a young lad right besides me. I can feel his arm brush besides mine. I can smell the aroma of his shampoo. I can hear his voice as he utters words meant to reach my ears. I close my eyes and smile.

I have everything I want: the loves of my life (Maxi and Tato) and a fantastic boyfriend. Once step, two step, three step; the walk continues.

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.

Amidst my hectic college career, I always find time for one thing, even on the busiest weeks: Parks and Recreation. This show has made me laugh and has made me cry, but most of all I have related to this show more than I would like to admit.

Here are some "Parks and Rec" moments that relate to life struggles that just about everyone faces.

April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation is notorious for her "I don't care" attitude. She speaks her mind without caring what anyone thinks of her. Fans love her because she isn't afraid to be herself. April can seem cold and negative, but she's really just fearless and strong-minded. And despite her sometimes harsh words, April truly cares about the people she's closest to. These are all reasons she is the epitome of a college student.
