Wooden spoons drags the bottom of cast-iron pushing shrimp above rice pulling blackened andouille closer to radiating source.

Sizzling garlic dancing with onions screaming tears dripping past a southern smile, with a drawl

Pushing near translucent clove past tongue and tooth with braised peppers and burning amber fluid.

Slipping food past pink lips.

This is home for the soul that I carry.

Where sitting outside saturated and made crisp with daylight.

A radiant assortment of poppy stained ceramic filling the limits of the worn pine cubies.

Flying puzzle pieces scattered across foot worn tiles.

This is my heritage my home

burning toast riding on tongue and cheek.

sweet and pensive impatience for meal time.

Waiting for dinner is waiting for parliament to be seated a sacred time.

This is what makes home.

Wet ink sitting under pleading mints carried by plastic throne.

clacking ceramic with clanging steel .

mint coats tongue filling throat with cool air

Whining engine idle in waiting gripped tight to wheel.

spring air greets car exhaust.

Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving has become an underrated holiday over the years. You barely see any Thanksgiving decorations in stores; it's like they skip right from Halloween to Christmas.
