We should all have different ways to make us feel empowered. Whether it's a favorite song or going for a run, it's something that motivates you. The best news is that these "motivational tools" can be anything. I love keeping track of everything that makes me feel empowered or ready for what is ahead. This is a list of my ways to feel empowered, I hope that you get inspired to keep a list of your own.
1. Queen B's "Flawless"
There is nothing like a song about being flawless to help you feel empowered. Queen B in general makes me feel empowered all the time. However, this applies to any song that makes you feel awesome.
2. Florence + The Machine's "Shake It Out" and "Dog Days Are Over"
I love her so much and these songs. They are both so uplifting. This music reminds me to stay positive. I actually played these songs at an assembly I organized.
3. "The Devil Wears Prada"
An Anne Hathaway classic. This movie continues to keep me going. I love the takeaway from this movie, it has a great ending. I want to succeed and movies like this just push me to stay focused (Ironic because I am watching a movie instead of actually working).
4. "Joy"
This is a newer movie that is not well-known from my knowledge, but everyone needs to watch this movie now. I would like you to keep reading this until the end but if you jump up, get the movie, and instantly watch it, I have a lot of respect for you. Jennifer Lawerence is the main character and she has yet again blew my mind with her acting.
5. "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"
Before anyone speeds to the store to go buy the movie "Joy" you absolutely need to get this movie too. This amazing film will always be my favorite. Not everyone understands what is truly beautiful about it but I hope you do. It makes me feel like I can do anything I put my mind to, and it reminds me to take risks. Everyone needs to live their life to the fullest, don't hold yourself back.
6. Any quote from Eleanor Roosevelt
For example:
"No one can make feel inferior without your consent."
"Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you'll be criticized anyway."
"Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people."
7. My Life Motto
In the movie, "We Bought a Zoo," Benjamin Mee says, "You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something will great come from it." I haven't watched that movie in years so I have to look up the quote to see where I even got it from. Whenever I say this I always say, "All you need is two seconds of bravery and it can only be better after that." I work at a waterpark so I say this to all the kids who are scared to go down the speed slides, and 9/10 times they end up going down. I apply this to my feelings and emotions as well. If I want to tell someone how I feel or just want to be honest with someone I remind myself of the two seconds and I'm good to go. It will always be better to put everything on the table than to keep it all in.
So here is my list, what's yours?
