Recently, the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) released the much-anticipated "Wonder Woman". The DCEU, unfortunately, has a history of releasing extremely divisive content such as "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice," and "Suicide Squad."
Wonder Woman’s first appearance in the DCEU was in "Batman V Superman". While I personally thought that this film was lacking in many areas, Gal Gadot’s portrayal of Wonder Woman was not one of those issues. She stole the show from two of the most famous superheroes ever created and it only made me more excited for her chapter in this cinematic universe.
Despite my excitement, I was still skeptical going into this film simply because I still had the bad taste of "Suicide Squad" in my mouth. Fortunately, "Wonder Woman" was an extremely enjoyable film. Without giving spoilers, I believe that the first act of this film was better than any other film released in the DCEU.
The origin story of Wonder Woman aka Princess Diana of Themyscira was captivating and intense from start to finish. Patty Jenkins did a marvelous job in directing this chapter. It is because of her vision and passion for the character that this film works so well.
There were some instances in the film that I thought were a little cheesy, such as some of the dialogue and the romantic aspect of the film. In the end, I thought the action, the women empowerment, and the pure badass nature of Diana made me overlook those instances.
My hope for the future is that the DCEU can keep up the good work and keep releasing great material.
My final verdict is 9/10. Must see.
